How QR generation works in v1

In the current v1 service, your QR payload is encoded and previewed in your browser. PNG and SVG exports are also created in your browser. QR Code Generator does not send that payload to a QR generation API or persist it on a server.

If you choose Web Share, the app hands the generated file, or the exact encoded payload as a fallback, to your browser or operating system share sheet at your request. What happens after that hand-off depends on the destination you select and is not part of QR generation.

Essential local storage

The service uses local storage in your browser for essential operation. qr-code-generator-theme stores your theme preference and qr-code-generator-consent stores your consent categories and the time you last saved them. These values do not contain your QR payload.

Advertising

QR Code Generator is a free, advertising-funded tool. Google AdSense is the first advertising provider behind the app's pluggable AdProvider. AdSense can load only after you consent to advertising and valid public client and slot IDs are configured. Unset or malformed IDs keep advertising offline, even after consent.

The only app placement is the in-flow below_preview slot near the download and share controls. Advertising never gates a download. Adult categories, pop-unders, video takeovers and page-level overlays are prohibited. Adult-category blocking also depends on controls maintained in the AdSense publisher account.

If you withdraw advertising consent, the app removes ad content and the AdSense script it owns. Browser JavaScript cannot fully unload third-party code that has already executed.

Analytics

With analytics consent, QR Code Generator may load Google Tag Manager and, if configured, Google Analytics 4 directly. They load only when valid public IDs are present in the expected GTM-… or G-… format. Unset or malformed IDs keep analytics offline, even after consent. Google Consent Mode defaults to denied before any Google tag can run.

If you withdraw analytics consent, the app removes script elements it owns and prevents further app gtag events other than consent updates. Browser JavaScript cannot fully unload third-party code that has already executed. Analytics and advertising choices are independent.

Future hosted mode

A later version may offer hosted short-path QR codes, user accounts and scan analytics. That future direction may use Firebase Auth and Firestore, but those hosted features are not available in v1. The current service does not host QR codes or collect scan analytics.
